A Peaceful Retreat
We had been eagerly awaiting our visit since the property opened, and it exceeded our expectations. The town it is located in is charming, and the resort’s secluded setting made it such a peaceful retreat. The grounds are expertly designed, with ample space to roam while still feeling cozy and intimate. The cabins were the perfect balance of privacy and functionality. Being surrounded by the natural beauty of the woods and river was truly rejuvenating.
The Digs
The thoughtful layout of the property and the positioning of the cabins allowed us to feel fully immersed in nature, regardless of where we were. Although we did not have the opportunity to explore the walking trails on this visit, it is certainly something we plan to prioritize during our next stay.
Fireside Bliss
The fireplace, which is situated just outside the restaurant, was a particular highlight for us as we enjoyed snacks and drinks before or after meals while taking in the ambiance of the fire.
We spent most of our time in the main reception area, where the restaurant, fireplace, and spa are located. The store and spa area were beautifully designed, providing the perfect space for some quiet reading or relaxation. The fitness building, which was conveniently located near our cabin, was also a frequent destination for us, as we attended yoga class there and found it to be one of the highlights of our stay.
Sēfari Meditation
Our guide Jobi was not only kind and welcoming but also deeply knowledgeable and passionate about her practice. The river walk, even though the weather was quite chilly, was a highlight for us, and we could only imagine how even more enchanting it would be during warmer months. My husband and I have participated in other wellness programs, but this one was unique and stood out in our minds.
Local Eats
I was highly impressed by the food at CLAY. Despite having low expectations for hotel/resort restaurants, every meal exceeded them. The milk bread with miso butter and octopus were standouts, as well as the french fries with pancetta. I loved the farm egg dish, resembling chawanmushi and topped with black truffle. The dry-aged porterhouse was also delicious. Even lunch exceeded expectations, with the fried chicken and grits, particularly noteworthy.
Trip Essentials
I recommend bringing a warm and durable parka and hiking boots to explore the trails in the woods. At nighttime, we found the flashlight and lantern provided in the rooms to be a great addition as we made our way to the restaurant. The hotel was well-equipped and provided everything essential, making us feel at ease during our trip.
