When developers Mike and Barb Phillips opened The Lodge at Blue Sky on their private ranch in 2019, sustainability was a guiding principle for the epic property that stretches across the Wasatch Mountain Range. The Earth Suites – 22 rooms, built right into the hillside – are cobbled from local limestone and cedar and feature energy-saving grass-carpeted roofs, while a treatment plant refines the hotel’s wastewater so that it can be properly channeled back into the earth. If you get tired of heli-skiing or horseback riding, indulge in a sustainable-farming lesson at the on-site organic farm that provides eggs, produce, herbs, and honey for the hotel’s restaurant, and for a selection of treatments at its Edge Spa. A new partnership with German skin-care brand Amala takes its commitment to sustainably sourced products one step further: Produced in a 100 percent carbon-neutral facility with geothermal temperature regulation, Amala’s face and body treatments incorporate 25,000 medicinal plants that speak to the spa’s bloom-to-bottle ethos.
