Commodore Perry Estate + Urban Roots

Commodore Perry Estate supports Austin-based non-profit Urban Roots. Each year, young people, volunteers, and community leaders unite on their farm. Together, they grow over 25,000 pounds of fresh foods, and donate 40% of this to 7 hunger relief agencies across Austin. At Commodore Perry Estate, our involvement is three-fold: a culinary fundraising event, supporting their CSA program, and hosting their beneficiaries at the Estate for exploration and mentorship. Urban Roots

Urban Roots provides today’s young leaders with paid opportunities to grow food, learn new skills and make a difference in their community. Volunteers on our farm can expect to get their hands dirty and help us get work done. Since Urban Roots interns are the ones leading volunteers through challenging farm work, they receive a unique opportunity to grow their skills in public speaking and project management.
